HP wins $3bn P&G outsourcing mega deal. HP Seems to be kicking some serious butt in the outsourcing arena.  3 billion dollars!   This is a huge deal for HP, and they beat out EDS for the gig. The Register Apr 11 2003 9:24AM ET [Moreover - moreover...]

Ericsson to outsource IT to Hewlett-Packard. Not a lot of info here, but I suspect the information will develop over the next week.   The short story is that Ericsson has signed a 'letter of understanding' to outsource its worldwide IT to HP.  Reuters Apr 11 2003 8:57AM ET [Moreover - moreover...]

More information on Carly's conflict of interest?  -- I don't get it, I expected the news about Carly's Conflict Of Interest would garner much more coverage in the media than it has thus far.  The article is so good that it deserves to be posted twice.  One of the mailing lists I'm on had this quote from another article, the source was listed merely as "Argus".

"While Hewlett-Packard remains a distant seventh in the $11.2 billion switch market, these specialists say she's in a position to shape her network-switching unit's business according to what she knows of Cisco's. "As long as that division competes with Cisco, she's got a problem," said Charles Elson, director of the University of Delaware's Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance."

Isn't anyone else interested in this? The conflicts should be more than obvious.  HP's networking group ranks 7th in the Networking world, but they're aiming for "number 1" or "number 2".   Obviously, one of those spots is held by Cisco.  I want to hear something from HP about how they can reasonably make the claim that there's no conflict here!

HP executive chases rival while serving on its board. Carly pushes Cisco competition within HP, but how many people know that she sits on the Board Of Directors for Cisco?  The policies both within Cisco and within HP bar employees from serving on the board of competitors.  So how the hell does she get away with it?   HP Spokesdroid, Suzette Stephens says Cisco isn't a competitor because Hewlett-Packard's network-switch product is "not material to our business."   However Mark Thompson, HP's marketing manager for networking gear, claims, "Our mandate is to get to No. 1 or No. 2".   Sounds like competition to me.  Charlotte Observer Apr 10 2003 10:23AM ET [Moreover - moreover...]

In response to a couple of emails, I felt that I should outline my status in the OpenView Arena.   Yes, my company, HKR Systems Management Solutions, Inc. is an OpenView channel partner.   We do in-depth consulting of nearly the entire suite of products.  We like to think that our skills take over where larger consultancies skills may stop.   In other words, we provide extremely advanced skills.

We also DO sell the software.  Our website isn't completely in place at this point, but it's a work-in-progress.  We are, however, willing to work with you in anyway, and we think that our prices on the OpenView suite of software are VERY competitive.   I can be reached either through my FeedBack Page or by calling me directly at 303-944-7740.

Security by stupidity. I saved my favorite article of the day for last.  This isn't HP related, but it's security related, and I dig all things security.  This article outlines "Stupid security checks imposed after September 11"... including the poor woman who had to drink her own-breastmilk at an airport checkpoint to prove that it wasn't, I dunno, some kind of deathspray, I guess.. From HP, a real server farm. HP Completes a 40 million dollar USDA gig providing servers, printers, imaging junk.  This is very interesting.  Before my days at HP, I worked with the USDA as a consultant on a project called "ISAP" or, the "Integrated Systems Acquisition Project".   The procurement phase took place in Fort Collins Colorado, and everyone was surprised that HP took no notice of us.  This project actually sounds like either a replacement or a counterpart to the ISAP project -- Congrats, HP.  CNET Apr 9 2003 4:15PM ET [Moreover - moreover...]

HP's 'WebSign' Puts Whole World in Your Handheld. This is a very good, very interesting article on some stuff coming out of HP Labs.   Including 3D Database Interfaces ("Like Doom?" says the author.) -- It's a fascinating read, either way.  How do get invited to a tour of the Labs?   I couldn't even do that when I was an HP Employee.  Storage Supersite Apr 10 2003 1:31AM ET [Moreover - moreover...]

Interview: HP looks to OpenView for software future. This is an interview with HP's VP Peter Blackmore regarding future plans for HP Openview.   Some interesting bits.  According to Blackmore they're looking at Security bits to integrate with the current Openview Stack.  Other Openview developers are looking at this as well.  They also want to look at more provisioning functionality.    The ultimate future of Openview?   OV will be a "Business Process Management tool or orchestration engine". [InfoWorld: Top News]

Microsoft, HP bond on high-tech Webcast. HP, MS, Intel and a few others are all conspiring (my word, not theirs) to do a live webcast of a concert in HD format (720p for those of you familiar with HD), and in Dolby Digital 5.1 surround.   Wow.   They're picking 700 people to be on the receiving end of this.  Oh yeah...and the artist is Japanese musician Jo Hisaishi.   I believe he's the ex-lead-singer of Slayer.  Or Megadeth... or ... maybe it was Pink Floyd.  CNET Apr 9 2003 11:35AM ET [Moreover - moreover...]
